boooom.. Hull mold complete.

Gel coat and reinforcement lam smashed on during the hottest day of the year so far!!! Gel times 8 minutes, had to go like hell!! Got the mold of the pattern tonight, a bit sticky but all good, it will need a PVA release agent as I am going for a super light carbon epoxy layup 😁🤙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.

Water based clear coat is on, more sanding now required, starting 800 wet, then 1200 and finally 1500 grit then machine polished with extra fine compound, time on this plug is 27 hrs to this point, huge amount of work creating moulds.

14 foot hollow carbon sup project. All glassed and host coated, working through the grits on the sander, 3 passes finishing at 500 grit, next step is the red fine surface filler finished at 800 grit ready for clear coat.

 Back at it, a trio of mini simo's 5'10", 5'8", 5'6" shaped ready to take a carbon and Bamboo overcoat.

Bamboo Composite

Been a while!!! busy, busy so need to catch up on some posts for my suppliers to take a look. We have here  a 5' 6" composite Egg, stringerless EPS blank with bottom concave to spiral vee, super light construction, Balsa nose and tail blocks are on with Cedar peripheral rails to follow, 5 fin setup for loads of options. A board inspired by the Welsh summer swell!! Should be a real mush catcher, available in 6' 0" and 6' 6"....

It's Friday, wahoo, beer and D fins time!!

They do seem a bit large but gonna need the drag to slow this thing down.

A week combining my two favourite pastimes, drinking and shaping, seemed to go OK seeing as it involved painting the foam, not in my comfort zone!!!! Beer certainly helps.

It's all about the hand planes this weekend, art work next....

Shaping up well, fin blanks laminated and cut ready for foiling, one more board to shape then a mega glassing sesh!!!!!!

Moving on today, managed to cut the blank in half, reinforce the stringer in carbon, repair some Gp4 old school mini spats then glue the blank back together. There is no such thing in life as too many clamps.... Cutting stringers and foam for a bunch on mini Sims tomorrow, let's have it!!!!!

New project on the table, a slab of foam in pic 1, an EPS blank in pic 2. Hotwire cut super light blank, stringer going in tomorrow and shaping will begin, gonna be a 9' 6" wide planning hull twinzer, a low entry rocker ripple catcher. Not moving away much from the Bob Simmons ethos, no need, still the best board template on the planet and definitely a great shape for British surf, let's get it on!!!

Skurfing anyone?

Its been a while but got my shape back on, skurfing anyone!!! All built from reclaimed ply and Cork tiles, hollow wooden construction 4' 6" long 20 1\2" wide, glass is going on so will be looking for a victim, I mean test pilot to give it a rip!!

No, its not the broken front end of a Firewire, its a composite Bamboo and Paulonia handplane with Balsa and Cedar nose and tail blocks complete with Gopro plug, if you like that sort of thing, get in touch if you fancy one, will do ya a deal!!!!!

The triplets got done, the Cedar ( centre) is on its way to Bells beach, Oz and the Paulonia  and Carbon fish are up for sale........Spent all day cutting EPS blanks so its gonna get busy real soon......
